What is a 301 Redirect/Permanent Redirect?

It is process used for permanent redirection of one URL to a different URL. It is the most efficient and search engine friendly method for webpage redirection because it preserve your search engine rankings and traffic for the particular redirected page.

How Many 301 Redirects Can I Do on a Site?

There is no limit on number of 301 redirects on a site, however there is one limit that you should know about and take care is number of hops.

Suppose you do a 301 redirect on one page, then 301 redirect to another page, then 301 redirect to another page and so on. And at one point Googlebot stop following the redirects. Following image illustrates the same.

And If you can do 301 redirects in one hop then it is an ideal situation. Following image illustrates the same.

If the hops are more than 4 to 5 then Googlebot stops following all the redirects. So, if you would like that everthing should flow to your new site well then do page to page redirects.
