Creating an XML sitemap helps search engines better crawl and categorize your site. And verifying the ownership of your site helps Google to know about the owner of your site before they’ll show your website information in their search results. If you are running a WordPress blog, then you can follow the guidelines here.
Submitting Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools
1) Sign in to Google Webmaster Tools with your Gmail account
2) Go to Webmasters Tool home page, then click the site you want.
3) Then on the dashboard Go to Crawl >> Sitemaps
4) Click the Add/Test Sitemap button in the top right.
5) Enter sitemap.xml into the text box that appears
6) Click Submit Sitemap.
